Ultra-Runners - Runners who run 50 miles or more in a single race.

Summary

Born to Run, although describing one of the most amazing races ever told, shows a tremendous amount of science in explaining how humans were indeed Born to Run. It shows that when humankind evolved and moved on to two feet, they lost speed, due to drag, as well as strength. Thus, the question became, as all animals evolved to become better, what was their to gain from moving on to two feet? The story is inspiring because it shows how our entire race evolved to run, yet almost no-one does so today, as well as the fact that bare-foot running is far bettI started reading the book mainly because of boredom and my dad shoving it towards me, however I was enthralled by page five. All the ideas portrayed in the book are incredibly amazing as well as being completely true.

Questions
If bare-foot running is as beneficial to your feet as it is, then why are sports companies able to make so much money?
If humans evolved to run, yet now are usually relaxing, will and if so when will we evolve again to get rid of our useless running ability?

  1. This book seems to bring up so many questions and facts that I never knew. I also asked myself: why do people wear running shoes if running barefoot is better? Maybe it's because of all the advertisements claiming that running shoes help? Also, I was wondering: have humans become faster or slower over time (starting from when we evolved to moving on two feet up until now)? Great book and summary :)
